Skip2MyLou
Yea I heard they were signed to Ruthless Records...

You got or heard of any of these albums GQ ?

Anti-Pop Consortium - Arrhythmia
Dream Warriors - Subliminal Stimulation
Esau - The Debut Album... The Farewell Tour
Gershwin B.L.X - Sunch Punch
The Immortal Micunion - A Declaration of Independents
Kam - Never Again
Pacewon - One
Sintax.The.Terrific - Simple Moves

I've never heard of any of the artists apart from Pacewon (was on a Fugees track) but I've read real good things about all these albums. You got any or know any info about any of the artists ?

Hell yeah..........Above the Law went hard back in the day.

They were one of the groups that left Ruthless right after Eazy died. As a matter of fact, when they were on Ruthless (Livin' Like Hustlers) Dre produced a lot of their shit.

After they left Ruthless, they went to some other label for a while, they started their own label, and did pretty big things with underground distribution. I remember Murder Dog did a big interview with them for that reason. Also, at that point, one of the main rappers of the group Big Hutch (used to be called Cold 187 on the old shit) started producing a lot of West Coast shit, as well as most new Above the Law shit. Suge Knight signed him as a producer, and then for a while Above the Law was ON Death Row, I think. But, they were just one of them groups that Suge rolled with for name value but never released anything from.

that Pacewon album is called "Won"
it's nice as hell, raw underground shit
Kam is some political shit, nice

Yeah I used to bump the shit out of that Uncle Sam's Curse - Black Superman to no end. I'm sure my old man used to really love that.

I've heard one album from these guys before. They were signed to Island Def Jam for at least a little while, and had that Native Tongues style. I really liked their stuff. They used that sample that plays at the beginning of the first Austin Powers movie when they're dancing on the street - 8 years before Austin Powers. I've been trying to get some forever.

Just about everything they done, I got but the shit is mostly on cassette. Includin that EP- Vocally Pimpin. That was anticipated for me cause it was immediately after Dre's depart from Ruthless, so I wanted to see what they were bringin to the table without him.

My favorite album was their last one "Forever Rich Thugs" then this one I'm uppin. Uncle Sam's Curse is what pretty much started the "G-Funk" era. Actually it's the album that popularized the sound, but it was transitioning from the "Black Mafia Life" album & was thoroughly demonstrated on Hutch's production for Kokane's "Funk upon a rhyme" (a scarce one I'm searchin for). It's amazing how that album innovated Kokane's style of George Clinton mimicking over hooks. But it wasn't as accepted back then as it is now.

From tons of Snoop tracks to Short Khop, Dre, Jayo & Mr. Kane himself, almost all of L.A. have "sprinkled Kokane" on their hooks and on a regular basis.

I loved Above The Law cause they wasnt just another shoot em up, gangsta group from L.A. They repped the entire ghetto from the politics to the code of the streets as well as some feel good music too. With their & Kokane's flava on an album together again after all these years, that would be a masterpiece. Not to mention some innovative shit to spark up the west.

Futuristic G music on this one. Especially 2 Killas (feat. Xzibit). Live from the ghetto is his most recent & it's good too but the production on this one was just sick.
